A fairly random observation, but I've noticed that a lot of creators have been drawing men without nipples. Men in animes, manga, comic and cartoons tend to rarely have nipples, and I'm assuming that a lot of creators here sort of grew up with that aesthetic.
It just strikes me as odd on both ends - it's weird when I see men in comics without nipples and it's ... sort of weird when I see them with nipples?
Above is an absolutely iconic image by Kelley Jones of Bane breaking Batman's back. But... do you notice anything odd? It might have to do with the weird lighting on Bane, but the artist sort of draws attention to Bane's nipple by highlighting them against an otherwise shadowed chest. (Also what's up his gloves? I guess that's a topic for another day)
Alternatively, we have this image from Free below...
As the subtitles point out, the image it quite wonderful and marvelous... but it's peculiar that they don't have nipples (or belly buttons). But I would argue that this is less odd than the aforementioned Bane photo.
Nipples are just plain weird on guys - it's sort of a weird aesthetic. In some cases it messes up a design, or becomes too obvious perhaps because we're not generally used to seeing them in drawings. You might even notice this in your own drawings as well, do you draw men with or without nipples?
Is a stylistic thing or are they just plain useless?
Just some food for thought the next time you're reading some comics on Tapastic, always ask yourself, where have my nipples gone?
Have a great weekend.
