I like blatantly unhealthy dark or tense romances where the dynamic looks more like a power struggle or a struggle to survive, like two animals circling each other. Maybe one is desperately affection-starved or maybe another is out for blood. although i guess that doesnt count as a romance at that point? The dynamic built upon manipulation and psychological distress between the protagonists of NBC Hannibal was pretty good, for instance. Of course, there's a difference between a romance purposefully written unhealthy, and a romance written unintentionally unhealthy, and I prefer the former.
In the way of positive romances, though, here's part of a quote i once read which is usually attributed to Hayao Miyazaki (?) : "I want to portray a slightly different relationship, one where the two mutually inspire each other to live - if Iām able to, then perhaps Iāll be closer to portraying a true expression of love."
and I usually prefer chaste physical intimacy over sexual expression -- this is probably due to me being both asexual and a raised Catholic
I also like weird couples that are like, human/monster or human/robot or monster/robot or whatever. mostly i just want to kiss a robot and this is my way of getting my wish fulfillment
