Okay, I'll play devil's advocate here. Not American, so my opinion is worth exactly zero, but while I don't align with his politics overall, I definitely agree with him on some points. That being said, that's pretty much the same with every politician.
From what I can tell, the thing about Trump that people love is that he's selling honesty to people who are starved of it. Despite whether you personally think what he's saying is true, he thinks what he's saying is true, and a lot of people are DESPERATE for a politician, ANY politician to speak his mind, off the cuff and uncensored. In today's politically correct world, where every statement is pre-written then passed through ten channels, where every word is scrutinised for possible offence or ambiguity, that's a real breath of fresh air.
The reason I started looking into the guy was because of the outrageous soundbites we've all heard, and have found that, while yes, he's pretty outrageous, the mainstream media on both sides of the fence are blatantly misrepresenting him all day, everyday. I'm talking from lying by omission all the way to straight-up fabrications. That makes me wonder, why they feel they need to do that? If the guy is so evil, why not just portray him accurately? It's pretty funny actually, he's written about his strategy for media attention in the past, which is to say something really crazy, let the media give him all this free publicity, then to backtrack just a touch and get airtime in which to properly explain his intentions. The media falls for it everytime.
The biggest thing I like about him though is that he's privately funding his campaign. That's unprecedented and when he likely loses, we're not going to see that pop up again in our lifetimes. Basically, I think there's value in any politician, no matter what stripe, being in power without being beholden to lobby groups and big business.
All that said, I know very little about his actual policy plans, other than ridiculous pie in the sky fantasies beyond the power of a president. Just saying you're going to make America great again, and that you'll be 'winning' would never be enough to swing my votes.
