I never got too much eye strain from drawing comics (at least nothing that little breaks couldn't fix), but once I started grad school I got some SERIOUS eye strain from being on my work computer all day. A friend recommended me to get computer glasses, so I bought a pair right away and I gotta say they do work! most are non-prescription (I have 20/20 vision), though they do have a slight magnification.
After some time wearing my computer glasses, my parents were concerned because I was wearing glasses without a prescription which "could be detrimental" to my eyes. So I got an appointment with an ophthalmologist! He told me that the magnification of the glasses isn't much, so it was okay for me to use them if they made me feel better. He also told me get Systane eye drops, which don't need a prescription (at least here), and work really well for dry eye problems!! so my current setup is eye drops about twice a day, keeping my screen a bit less bright, and taking breaks every now and then. I rarely use my computer glasses now, but I still keep them at hand in case I need them.
There's also the times in which I forgot to take my computer glasses to the office and I ended up working on the computer while wearing sunglasses...it looks really silly but it's better than nothing!!
