I'd also like to chime in that it's a little frustrating to be past this "point of no return" for a Staff Pick, because many of us have poorer art in the beginning pages of our comics, and through time and practice, our art styles develop. So even if your art turns out to be godly down the road, it won't matter how much you improve, because it's your first few pages that really seem to matter for a Staff Pick.
So it comes down to a couple choices:
- Redo your pages leading up to the point where your art got better.
- Make a new comic from scratch with amazing art from page 1.
The problem with this, is that we put the most time and effort into developing our initial comics, and have put a ton of heart into our stories and characters. Redoing our art would take too long, and making a new comic just for the sake of gaining a bigger audience would be hard to put your heart into when your initial project stagnates.
That's why it kind of seems like a point of no return in terms of Staff Picks. Now I feel pretty good with the subscriber count that I've naturally gained in months, but I can see why people find it frustrating to find people gaining instant success in a mere few pages. Because who knows? Maybe in 10 to 20 pages, that art hits the level that these 3 page wonders obtain, and by then, there is a nice story and characters that have been developed. But yes, this is tapastic's own site and they're free to do what they wish. I know that they want that art to be showcased at the front door so people click on those comics, but here's the thing. If tapastic wants some good ad revenue, it would be more beneficial to Staff Pick longer comics, because that's MORE ad impressions for readers to gloss past, which makes more money. Why showcase a 3 pages comic, when you could double/triple/quadruple/quintuple/etc your profits by showing developed comics with more pages?
