Sorry, I love character design, so I thought I'd start asking.
When you design your characters, say a villain, do you design them to "look evil?" Or perhaps to intentionally defy that idea if the fact that they are a villain is supposed to surprise the readers?
Do you give all of your character designs deep character meanings behind them, (say representing a social class, a trinket from a lost loved one, etc), or is it all about the overall 'vibe' for you?
Jimin's design was just inspired by how I saw her in my head, which my partner then turned into a character. One of the reference images however included tattoos, so she added them, though they weren't originally part of my plan. In doing so, my partner shared her ideas for a deeper meaning for the tattoos, which I've now written into the story, so it's almost like the design spawned more character depth rather than vice-versa.
(I'll do another for another character tomorrow)
