Oh definitely. I'm American born and was raised in the Dominican Republic since age 12, and it's changed my writing a lot. My first published story, "Rain Dance" (you can Google it "Rain Dance" H.G. Wells Short Story Competition) was inspired by my life in the mountains of the Dominican Republic, a little town called El Capacito, and living through a small hurricane/tropical storm passing over the island in a log cabin
I think one thing that growing up in another country has done to change my writing style is make me realize how much I care about the way that words sound together. I like mixing languages together to take full advantage of the euphony, and implied metaphors I find in words that look or sound similar to English alternatives
