Be good, that really should be your main priority. Here's the thing, something that is original, isn't going to necessarily be good or liked. You take a risk with originality because you have no idea if will work or not. You know "good" will work, that's kind of a point of it. You should work on being good and then perhaps take what you've learned and turn it into something original.
For example, I'm a huge manga fan, I'll use Hirohiko Araki's JoJo's Bizarre Adventure as a reference. Araki does a lot of work with his manga, working on proportions, features and giving his work, especially in certain parts, a very realistic approach that you often don't see in mangas. You can tell, especially in much later parts, the kind of attention he puts into his work.
However, he also has a very unique and original style that is completely different from what we've seen before. It's a style easily recognizable and often even parodied throughout other mangas and animes. However, had Araki not already established himself as a "good" mangaka" his original style would have come off as just obscene. It would've been easy to see past the originality and see the huge flaws.
