@joannekwan OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH GIRL YOU TRIGGERED MY TRAP CARD YOU BETTER GET READY FOR THE BUTTHURT CAUSE IT'S COMING
Hiveworks man... Okay, so they put out this front that they're a collective of real good shit, right? And sure a lot of the comics on there are great and fab. But then you look at the rest of the site past Blindsprings, Paranatural and anything by Der-Shing Helmer, some of the stuff on Hiveworks is absolute garbage quality and doesn't even fit the pristine veil of purity that they're trying to convey.
Hiveworks be all, "look at all these progressive cool whimsical stories we have that look wonderful" and then you look at the fact that they have some pretty awful gag comics, poorly drawn longforms and wonder how the fuck that shit even got on the site. Some of them are the type you'd see on SmackJeeves and not the beloved professional outlet that Hiveworks claims to be, so what the hell?
"What's Hiveworks looking for?" you ask. Well good question cause they seem to have no fucking idea either!
"No gore" they say! Oh okay Hiveworks!
Professional art? Sure thing Hiveworks!
Well-constructed longform? Whatever you say Hiveworks!
The stuff they say they want is different from what they put on the site and to me that's false and shitty "advertising" in terms of actually submitting your comic. I've been told that some of the ones on there that don't fit their criteria were there when the collective started but it's STILL bullshit and not an excuse to advertise that particular comic on your front page and then put a fucking ban on it in the submissions. It's like putting cookies on your shop's display window but when you get in the store it's full of SHOES.
TL;DR: My salt cannot be measured in any kitchen measuring utility, and if you want to apply for Hiveworks, go for it, because they can't seem to get their shit together and pick whatever at a whim regardless of anything their site says they're looking for. Good luck in your submission, though they'll probably just bitch about the submissions on their twitter as I've seen them before, despite the fact that the same crappy shit they're complaining about being submitted still matches the quality of some of the comics on their site.
P.S. - If you REALLY want to get into Hiveworks and get rejected, keep in mind that I don't remember who it was (Katie Tiedrich I think?) but someone took SEVEN TRIES submitting into Hiveworks to finally get their shit in.
