Ah.. my favorite subject to rant about..
SEXUALIZATION OF CHARACTERS/ WHEN DOES FANSERVICE IN A SERIES JUST BECOME THE ONLY THING IN THE SERIES?
Here's my view on the whole thing: Be logical with the sexiness. It's why so many clothing items in the Medieval Era went out of style
Anyone ever read or heard about women having to wear cages underneath their dresses way back then? Do you know why they went out of style? Women couldn't get through narrow doorways and it was impossible to sit down. Why were they even worn in the first place? It emphasized a tiny waist and added on to the width of a women's hips.
Have any idea what followed it? An item that emphasized the butt. Why? A larger butt was seen as sexy. Why did it also go out of style? It was still impossible to sit. What about corsets? They're still around and seen as sexy, but they aren't a requirement to be worn. They are very difficult to move and breathe in, and I'm a very flexible person who has worn corsets (and things similar to them) many times before.
Moving on to Japanese anime..
Many anime- wait.. auto correct says animes is wrong.. but saying "many anime" just doesn't sound right to me- whatever.. please don't harp on my grammar.. anyways..
Many animes (seriously is that actually not right?) have been tip-toeing the line of what's considered hentai- and what isn't.. Hentai purposefully sexualizes EVERYTHING
Regular anime- mainly Shoujo anime- are honestly becoming borderline Hentais (is that also wrong? Hentais??) It is very irritating when people put G cups (and larger) on female characters that are only 14 years old. Now I know Lolis and Lolicons are a thing, but really, have you heard the voices of these sexualized characters?? They sound like they're only 10!
It has even gone so far that I have found voiced lines on an adorable app are found in many different Hentai (mainly from the Gentle, Pure, and Friendly personalities, which is rather disappointing.. I also found a line from the Intelligent personality in a Hentai.. which was actually quite the shocker for me)
Ahem.. anyways..
On to the games
I just have to put this out there: I get that many female characters are sexualized A LOT in video games, but you do realize the stereotypical gamer-nerd is late teen's-early twenties, living in the parent's basement, devouring a ton of junk food, drinking tons of sodas and energy drinks, probably doesn't have a well paying job, and most likely doesn't have a romantic relationship with a girl- or even a guy?
Plus, many guys to this day still ge shocked when they find a girl who actually games like them
It's expected for female characters to be over-sexualized because of this
Ok.. moving on to the last bit of my rambling..
My series (that is in the making) and a bit of a comparison to other stories:
Yes, many characters are oversexualized. Yes, even the self-conscious and shy ones. Yes, clumsy is seen to be sexy. It is all fanservice- unrealistic and unnecessary, yes- but still fanservice.
I want to give a heads up to those reading this that my fanservice will be intentional- but resonable. Clumsy will be clumsy, and at most be seen as cute. Not all big-breasted characters will be overly sexualized- or even behave/dress provocatively. Most characters have big boobs because creating that character had a flow to it, and smaller boobs seemed to disrupt that. No, not all female characters will have big boobs, in fact, most are a B or C cup. Yes, flat is justice, and included, and I don't mean just on guys. No, not all guys will be sex-fiends, idiots, gay, jerks, killed, look like chicks, or have abs. I am making my characters as diverse as the real world. For those who want to see the majority of the fan-service, it will be on a side-story that I am also creating. There is one very provocative, flirty, and honestly just down-right slutty- character that will be featured in it. The rest will be Chibis unless also featured. This side-story is to help characters understand the background of the story, answer questions, feature comments, have entire discussions over chapters, and will contain bloopers, requested art, and fan-service.
All the characters in my story will be appropriately sexualized. In, other words: 10-year-olds won't have giant boobs. Chubbier adult characters will have as much sexual appeal as others, or at least close to. (I don't hate full figures, but I do understand not everyone attracts to them) Not all sluts are actually sluts, most of them are forced to act that way (I have no better way to phrase this, and can not explain without giving spoilers)
Dere archetypes are to be expected, but most Tsunderes and Danderes won't be overly sexualized. (For right now) expect the same kind of sexualization as Yandere Simulator. (I may change this depending on how sexual or non-sexual the final product of the game will be)
Basically: All sexualization in my story will actually be a part of the character and/or story's plot. Reasonable fanservice is expected
Why the big huge ramble: I always love hearing the different opinions on this topic, expressing my opinion as support or counter argument, and because this is Tapastic: low-key self promotion of my series that will (hopefully) be launched some time tomorrow
