Ehm ...
I'm not a genius in that things, actually I'm a newbie as u want say so.
But I'm trying some things out – here they are:
• Your story for the people
That's an important thing, I guess. Why you're drawing comics?
At the first place (and really at the first place) you draw comics
because you love to tell the crazy stories in your head in a cool
visual way. U draw for you – for your pleasure.
At the same time it is your pleasure to tell these stories other people.
It's awesome to have an idea and to see how your stories become
visible to you but it's also awesome to show them to others and see
their smiles. (Or to get their digital feedbacks.)
So bring your stories into places where people are.
• Places where people are
In digital way they're community sites. 'Community' is the word for a lot of people at one place.
+ with a common interest. That's important: common interest. Or many common interests.
So the task is:
- What am I producing? (art/sequential art/ illustrations)
- What are the community sites with a topic that fits in that what I'm
producing? (art/comic communities)
So we have Deviantart | Artstation | DrawCrowd | CGSociety | Tapastic | etc.
But maybe there are other community sites with a generally topic like Social Life.
Maybe there are people outsite who don't brows in specific art community sites
but also loves art and comics ... they're just not so hard into it. – but like it, when
they see some stuff of this kind.
In that case we have Facebook | Twitter | Tumblr | Instagram | Pinterest | ello | etc.
• What am I doing?
When you start, nobody will know u at the beginning.
You have to show yourself (and your work ofc).
I want to show my works so many people (with the interest that fits my work) as possible.
I go to the greatest places where people are, register me into these communities and
participating in it. That means:
I search a lot of social media and art community sites, make an account and post my shit.
With time it emerges whether I like these sites or it don't fits to me.
• Play by the rules
A thing I had to learn is not to rape community sites for your advertisement.
Ofc you have the intention to spread your awesome stories all over the worl at first place
and to tell them so many people as possible to collect so many smiles as possible.
But people in these communities are in these communities because of a certain point.
If the community is a social community like Facebook, people are in Facebook because
of the social thing. These sites offer some mechanics that support the topic (e.g. forums).
*Use these mechanics in the way they were designed for. Use these sites in the way they were
designed for.
Your stories are for the people (and you), not the people for your stories.
Don't swap these things!
• Post, post, post
Don't stop posting. When you have a continuous output, the people'll notice you.
The more often you should, the more the people will notice your screaming.
But don't shout bullshit. Remember: Don't use the sites and mechanics for your purpose
in the first place, use them whenever u feel to say something it's important for you.
or
Be authentic. Your'e not a slaughtering commercial machine, you are a human.
Be human. Be transparent. As people love the protagonist in stories 'cause they
read/watch/listen a story about him/her – get to know this person – they love
you as a protagonsit in your personal life story. When you be honest, when u be
just a human – they got to know you better and start to love your work.
So post!, post everything and every minute – but post only things you really want to post.
And if you can't post every minute some deep shit about you (or silly shit u like), then don't
post every minute. It's ok. Be yourself in the first place and not the slave of your comic work.
So what a big speech.
What are my sites?
like Facebook – newest shit
follow Twitter – nice chats
love Instagram – cool snippets
check Pinterest – hot stuff
watch Deviantart – great art
... and ofc my webcomic Quest Runners (wip) here on Tapastic!
XOXO and THX 4 support!
