From "Lyra's Magnum Opus" Chapter 10: Cetus the Whale, Part Two:
"
"Darling," he sighed, his eyebrow creased. "What do you want to eat? Anything you want, I'll get it. Just tell me what you want."
I couldn't think of a single thing. The only thing I could think to say came out of my mouth.
"I'm tired."
"Darling, I know you're tired. I know. But you have to eat something. You're probably tired because of your low blood sugar. You need to eat."
Oh. He was right. He was following my symptoms. Always taking care of me. It filled my heart with gladness. I tried to think of anything that seemed appetizing, but nothing seemed good. I didn't want anything. I just wanted to close my eyes. So, I did.
"No, no, no. Darling. No, no. Open your eyes. You have to eat. Look at me. Tell me what you want to eat. Please."
I saw the ceiling, the white color with all the glitter all over it. Then the darkness behind my eyelids.
"No, no, no, darling. No, no, no." So gentle, but so desperate. He was shaking my hand now, trying to shake me awake. I felt our cat Cocoa Bean jump off of me, as he was shaking me. Then under his breath, "I'm too late. I'm too late." Scolding himself.
"Te-chan?" His mom's voice, full of concern, too.
"Mom! Mom, do we have anything to eat? Something with carbs? Mom, I need Sana to eat right now!"
"Yes, I have some oatmeal. But it will take a few minutes to make." She was trying to stay calm, I could hear that in her voice. Trying to stay calm for her son.
"Please make it! Sana, Sana-a, open your eyes. I don't want to have to pinch you. I don't want to."
"Sit him up, maybe that will work for a few minutes."
I felt his strong hands on me, wrapping around me. Felt my world move. My eyes opened, and I saw his mom standing there in the doorway, wearing a traditional apron and an every day kimono in a tan color.
I heard Tetsu's throat make a noise, and he was hugging me on the couch, hugging me to him, as we sat together. I put my head on his shoulder. Wanted to close my eyes, so comfortable.
"No, no, no, don't close your eyes. Talk to me. Talk to me about, uh, Cetus, the constellation? You like that story. I want to hear it again. Please tell me about Cetus, Sana-chan." The desperation in his voice was overwhelming.
"Ah, Cetus the whale?"
"Yes. The whale in the sky."
"Okay."
Dreamily, my eyes closed, and I began telling him a story. About a whale created by the god Poseidon, named Cetus.
