Oh, all the time!
As much as people say it, it's really difficult not to compare yourself to others who are working in the same field as you, assumedly towards the same goals.
For me, it's less of ignoring/skipping over these comics but more intensely analyzing every fricken pixel of the page, wondering what they are doing differently than me to make their story more appealing or interesting to the general public.
I've come to realize lately, though, that I really only feel this way towards comic creators who are very popular – and have let that popularity go to their heads. It's never cool to act like you are above your fanbase.
That, and the creators who suddenly appear on the Daily Snacks or in the spotlight on the front page of Tapastic even though they've only posted one page or episode literally that same day. I will never understand how that works, and I do actually find myself ignoring those comics on principle, even though they might be amazing.
I consider my comic rivals the creators I follow here who inspire me to do better because of who they are as artists and as people within the community. There are a lot of creators here who do amazing work, and I love seeing them get the recognition for it!
