Hm, I find the topic title a bit misleading since David Lynch isn't talking about comics and you're using the video more to illustrate your opinion of mobile comics. Possibly changing it to just "Reading Comics on Your Phone - Opinions" might open it up more for people to share their thoughts. [just a suggestion]
Now, my thoughts on the topic.
Unlike films, which essentially need the big booming surround sound, giant screen to take up your full view, dark quite atmosphere in order to fully experience a film, comics aren't quite like that. Comics are a combination of art and literature to be enjoyed anywhere as long as you have it with you and mobile apps make it possible to carry your library with you. Art in comics can range from the fully complex detailed rendering to more simple doodles and both can be enjoyed on a phone. Especially, if an artist formats their pages with possible mobile users in mind (it is possible to format comics in standard page format and it looking great on a phone). Also, unlike watching videos on a phone, a user can zoom into a comic page, if they wanted to on a phone, to take in the detailed art.
Being a mobile media, I think, has actually helped comics more than hurt comics. People are able to read virtually anywhere; public transportation, waiting in line, free time away from your home computer. And I think, that having comic reading apps has helped get younger generations into art, storytelling, reading, and comics. And to top off my thought, Tapastic itself, is created with mobile users in mind. Mobile readers are a big majority of the people visiting Tapastic.
There are things artists can do to adapt to this crazy new format. For example, I post my comic is vertical and standard format and let readers choose which they prefer to read in. Either format, works fine on a phone, however there are some readers that prefer the one format over the other. Or just increasing font size a bit and limit how many panels are squeezed into horizontal rows will definitely help accommodate mobile fans while still creating in standard format.
