Aah, that's a debate for a whole other subject. I can't really fairly say I dislike them because my girlfriend is one herself, as are several of my friends, but they're all people who appreciate human artwork as well and don't have this mindset of "furry art > human art," like that of my old disgruntled readers. Not that I'm saing furry art < human art, some of those wolf comics that use to over populate DA were damn good! And there are damn good furry comics out there! Their potential to be good or bad is just as good as a good as any human comic. The difference comes down to how insistent the furry is about a work not being good JUST because it's not furry, but the exact same thing goes for the other way around. I'm sure there are plenty of fantastic furry comics out there that a lot of people will never give a chance JUST because their characters are furries.
Oh gosh, well if you wanna feel better... I've had my story about these creatures called "blanks" that steal faces since middle school (and even have dated art to prove it). Then around 2012, a movie came out...with things called Blanks that steal identities. Nobody really ever made any comment about it until just a few weeks ago, until this one guy was SO insistent that I must have gotten the idea from said movie and was even making me show him the dates of my old, old art work to prove I did it first.
...Then just proceeded to tell me "well they started planning the movie around that time." Yes, because, I, a 12 year old still frequenting Neopets, was looking up the stories and plots of movies that weren't even official or planning to be made until 6 years later.
That said, I acknowledge I got a little too heated and probably gave the guy more attention than it was worth. At some point you just gotta accept you aren't gonna prove anything to someone that determined.
I guess I should have clarified, it's not like I MIND questions at all! Especially about the creatures in my comic that I haven't explained a ton about yet. Questions about them are natural and I don't mind when people ask me "Oh, can they do this?"
What I have had problems with (And keep in mind this has only been like...one or two people. The VAST majority of my readers are fantastic!) is people telling me "They shouldn't be able to do that." or "It doesn't work that way."
Like...it's a fictional species I made up...and I'm being told how my own species works. Once again, that was literally just one or two people though!
I love getting just curious, innocent comments. Those honestly make my day because it means someone is interested enough to wanna know. And so long as it isn't really a spoiler, I'm always happy to tell them.
It's okay, I still get frequent comments about my character looking like Lucy from Fairy Tail. We can get through this together! : D
Oh yes, my favorite! Didn't anyone tell you that you were writing a Crisis 3 fan fic all along?
That's the best, when you get comparisons to stuff you haven't even read or watched. I have one reader who, to clarify, I love, their comments don't bother me, but they comment a lot comparing any slightly morbid situation in my comic to creepy pastas like Jeff the Killer, which I've never read. So while their comments don't bother me at all and aren't annoying or offensive like your example, I do sit their scratching my head a little
